The faster, the better, right? Well, not exactly. Just like any other vehicle, pontoon boats have speed limitations for very good reasons — both due to safety hazards and actual physical limitations.
Considering this, how fast do you have to go and how fast can you actually go?Hobby metall svarv
We asked pontoon owners around the internet for information regarding their own boats. The following top speeds have been recorded by GPS, not the speed gauge which, on boats, often has an error of mph. Hi I'm Jerry, founder of PontoonHelper.
I've been pontooning for over 30 years believe it or not and have learned a thing or two about pontoons. As my passion project Pontoon Helper is aimed at educating any reader on all the different things you need to know before pontooning. I consider myself somewhat of an expert in this industry as it has become my life since retirement. Feel free to submit a comment or question on the website and I'll try to get back to you. Possibly if you outright list what information you're looking for, builders would give all the details. I was afraid to very fast, but rpm put us at 25mph. I did open up to full throttle for a few seconds to check top end The pitch was at. I'm trying to achieve rpm with a max at 36rpm.Covert synonym
The prop size is a Powerfin 60" 3-Blade and the Hp of the motor is Hp although my 30yr vetern Mechanic says that at rpm that motor would put out hp, no problem. Not that rpm is max for the prop. Selecting the Right Outboard Engine
Messages 2, Reaction score 1, Does your motor have a short shaft, by chance? It sounds like you need to be biting in cleaner water. Pester the dealer until he does something. If that fails, give BM a shout; maybe they can lean on your dealer. Have you filled out your buyer's survey yet? That may provide you with some leverage. Whatever you do, give the selling dealer the opportunity to make things right. But don't settle for That's not right. My boats burned more than 40, gallons of fuel in and we can tell when the bottoms need to be cleaned just by looking at our gph gallons per hour burned. You should also make sure that your propeller s are true no bends and free of dings. A propeller going through the water is like cutting a tomato with a knife; if the blade is sharp and true it will slice through the water like a sharp knife through a tomato on the other hand, if the knife is dinged or has been bent a little it will still cut through the tomato but not as smooth.
If the propeller looks dinged it to Pacific Marine Propellers in National City or any other propeller repair shop and for a fraction of the cost of a new prop they can repair and tune your propeller.
STEP 1: We head to our local fuel dock and fill the boat as we normally would before a boating or fishing trip. At this point log we log our engine hours. Some of the newer electronics packages, like the ones by Garmin and Raymarine, have trip meters, if yours does zero the mile meter.
Using a stop-watch to measure our time, we take off out of San Diego Bay at our typical cruising speed 22kts and head to South Coronado Island, then back to Pt. Loma, into San Diego Bay down to the bridge, and then back to the fuel dock. Now we have the data that we will need to determine our burn rate.
Step 3: On our trip we burned 35 gallons of fuel at an average speed of 22 knots and it took just over 2 hours to run 45 nautical miles. Now lets do the math, 35 gallons at 2 hours is So we can cruise a total of 22 knots for about 4. We can troll and fish most people troll at 6 to 8 knots for 2 hours before we need to cruise back home at 22 knots.
With this boat you could cruise out, fish a few hours and then run back home with fuel to spare. In fact, on my boats, the hour meters fit perfectly where the fuel gauges used to be.Marimar season 1 episode 41
I am neither guaranteeing nor suggesting that you can take your boat to its full estimated fishing range. The weather, seas, and condition of your boat, as well as you, the operator, will affect the ACTUAL your range of your vessel.
Boat safely and at your own risk. Now that you know your hull is clean and your props are in working order on to the test. Mercury Marine uses the following formula to estimate potential top endthis calculator uses this formula. The calculator below uses the above formula. By using known values for the weight, power and speed you can come up with a more accurate constant for your boat.
You can then see what effect changes to weight or power will have on top speed. Using the calculator in this fashion will produce surprisingly accurate results. Just remember there is no substitute for accurate testing! If you don't have Internet access on your boat, Mercury has a neat slide rule that makes all this easy. Accurate data is important when using this calculator. Weights should be actual running weight as determined by a scale and are to include driver, fuel, engines, supplies etc.
We have found manufactures published weight to be unsuitable for these calculations. Shaft horsepower is to be the actual uncorrected engine horsepower less drive train losses. What's New? Forum Discussion Sandbar How fast could one of the hp wake boarding boats go. Page 1 of 3 1 2 3 Last Jump to page: Results 1 to 10 of Thread: How fast could one of the hp wake boarding boats go. That's kind of like asking "how big a wake can one of these performance boats put out if you repropped them? You could re prop but that really won't give you much. My guess is 55 to 60 mph but it wouldn't be the best ride and who knows how they would handle at that speed, not to mention you'd lose your wakeboarding ability.
I think if speed is your most important priority get a performance boat and add a tower and maybe tabs. With a few phat sacks they can be made to throw out a decent wake, nothing as nice as a wakeboarding boat but I think it is easier to get a performance boat to act like a wakeboard boat than it is to get a wakeboard boat to act like a performance boat.
I think it has more to do with the hull as opposed to the HP. On glass early in the morning I was clocked by GPS at 68 mph.
My new Tige with a HP inboard and a completely different hull will only do I think it is easier to get a performance boat to act like a wakeboard boat than it is to get a wakeboard boat to act like a performance boat. So to put a "speed" prop really wouldnt do much. The old snager hulls haven't really changed in years. Like I said they are geared for low end torque. Trailer Park Casanova. I'm not going to stretch it and say their is a hull speed like with a sail boat.
But their is some relation. More hp just means more fuel burn with a true wakeboard boat. With more HP ya just get more people bitc ing about the fuel burn, and ya still only do 48 to 52 mph, and the very few extra MPH from mostly prop tuning. This chart should be used for general estimates only.
